Media summary

Lacebark is a sculptural gateway building for the Norwest Quarter precinct in Sydney’s Hills Shire, forming part of a bold masterplan transforming 3.8 hectares into a carbon neutral neighbourhood. Drawing on the site’s history as a brick manufacturing plant, the building is expressed as two slender, offset masonry volumes linked by a naturally ventilated central corridor. A study of sun angles was undertaken to inform our response and generated a form where angled solid walls and corresponding glass walls are orientated to allow the winter sun into the living spaces, while blocking the summer sun.
