The Tree that Shaped a House

Verdant and violet, the sturdy-trunked jacaranda stands proudly, mirrored in the jewelled palette of deep greens and alluring purples, bathing the Victorian terrace home in a re-energised charm.

Belying the homage to heritage, our team has created a dynamic synergy between old and new. Traditional interior detailing has been effectively merged in the modernised spatial reconfiguration. Thermal passive design saw the existing balcony enclosed, re-orienting the kitchen, living, dining with northern light flooding the open floorplan through dramatic gabled glazing.

Ensuring long-term sustainability, the sloping site has accommodated a strategic second skin of walls, addressing previous water damage, and breathing in its leafy surrounds.

We are immensely proud of this project showcasing the fusion of form with a striking landscape feature. And our clients, a young couple, are excited to embrace the next stage of their lives in this space of charm and solace.

For more than 100 years the cottage we now call our home has wonderfully coexisted with a Jacaranda tree. It has been the inspiration behind our renovation; the colour palette was taken from the changing seasons of the canopy and natural timbers throughout the home complement the trunk that sits within arms reach of the exterior. The imperfections of the original home have been celebrated and blended with modern luxuries in a way that we love, retaining the charm while providing a highly functional space. It is a sanctuary of quiet and calm that is truly our forever home.
