This bespoke beach front residence sits cradled within its sloped context, designed with a solid back edge and open to the front, akin to a sea cave. Living and bedroom spaces have been situated towards the front of the property, to have unobstructed views towards the ocean, whilst car access and other areas have been located towards the back. The house also boasts a sauna, a feature stone-clad outdoor shower, an outdoor kitchen area located on the upper level, as well as a “sea cave” ensuite.
The material palette reflects its coastal surroundings, and consists of weathered timber, natural stone and light, textured materials.
The vision was to create a calm home where its residents unwind and relax – a home away from home. The interior design is a collaboration between Matthews Architects and Enoki Interior Design.
From the outset, we asked for a spacious, modern home with the relaxed texture and character of a beach house. We wanted light materials, an airy quality and a fresh coastal atmosphere that responded genuinely to its seaside setting. The design has delivered this beautifully. Spaces are arranged intuitively, highly functional and exactly aligned with how we live day to day. Natural light fills the house, and views have been carefully considered and framed throughout. Seeing the sea from the shower is a highlight, demonstrating how the design works with the landscape to create a connected and uplifting coastal home.
