Overlooking the water’s edge at Brighton Beach, the site is the last allotment in a row of residential homes adjacent to the Brighton Sea Baths and Marina. These monolithic structures stretch out into the bay to create pockets of calm for swimmers and watercraft.
Commissioned by a couple to live permanently, the project draws on canonical attributes embedded within the bay structures: refuge and prospect. Arranged over three distinct layers of program that nestle into the gentle fall of the site, views are carefully edited through the home providing glimpses of water and sky. A resilient concrete structure wraps the facade on three sides, protecting a series of gardens that provide sanctuary from public view and harsh climatic conditions.
