House of Light is an interior-driven response to a tightly constrained inner urban site, where the progressive enclosure of surrounding development had significantly reduced light and outlook. The project repositions the interior as the primary architectural driver, using light, volume and sequence to restore spatial quality within a dense context.
Â
At the centre of the interior is a vertically scaled entry courtyard that acts as a light well and organising device. This internal void draws natural light deep into the plan, establishes visual continuity across levels and provides clear orientation throughout the house. Interior spaces are carefully sequenced and shaped by variation in height and proportion, allowing daylight to animate the interiors over the course of the day.
A restrained material palette and precise detailing support clarity and longevity, resulting in an interior environment defined by calm, generosity and the considered use of natural light.
