Media summary

Designed for a retiring couple, Hindmarsh Island House celebrates the unencumbered views of the Murray River and Conservation Reserve.

A site with encumbrances sees a compact building foot print, but with no compromises. The dwelling is organised for relaxation and leisure, with a liveable ground floor level and guest accommodation with retreat above embracing the expansive North and South views.

With durable external materials to withstand the marine environment including weathering steel, stone, stainless steel and aluminium rainwater goods for minimal maintenance living.

The ease continues internally, large double glazed sliding doors seamlessly connect the entertainment areas immediate to the deck with heated pool and of course no step thresholds throughout. The separate floor levels are negated by a void with mezzanine and high-level windows, bringing interaction between the ordinarily separate spaces. Polished concrete with subfloor heating and passively ventilated conditions provide the perfect place to reflect on life’s achievements.

The design is with consideration to our retirement chapter. The low maintenance materials, efficient heating and cooling, and uninterrupted views of water surrounds allow for our relaxation and entertainment. The jewel in the crown is the entertaining space which opens onto the spacious north facing deck. It’s reassuring to know the design offers ease of mobility, with the inclusion of a tasteful lift. Our greatest pleasure is to share this space with family and friends whether it be a drink at the bar, a meal in the dining booth, or a relaxed outdoor gathering. Summing up – we just love it!
