Media summary

The story of this project is less one of conventional architectural design and delivery and more a case study in the opportunity to use our professional experience to be helpful.

The eventual project is a new home for Fitzroy Neighbourhood House (formerly Fitzroy Learning Network), an organisation set up to support and foster community within disadvantaged groups.   The site ‘under the legs of a tall tower’ in the Atherton Gardens Housing Estate, called for design for circularity and with as much warmth and welcome the very lean budget would allow.

A ‘front’ garden to Brunswick Street is yet to be planted by volunteers but already a sunny welcome entry presents to this once hostile corner.  To the east, simple interventions to the existing fabric revive the popular adjacent play space.

The new home for Fitzroy Neighbourhood House was as joyful in process as it is in completion.
