Duffy Street is a new family home that sits on an elevated block at the foot of the Mount Ainslie reserve. The project aims to take advantage of the wonderful views to the public reserve to the east, and to the distant views of the Brindabella Mountain range to the west. A contemporary wrap around verandah at the upper floor level provides an operable "buffer" zone that incorporates external operable screens to provide sun shading to protect living spaces from afternoon western sun in summer and visual privacy when desired.
A full length high level north facing saw tooth window over the main living room allows northern sunlight and warmth into deeper parts of the plan and a two storey courtyard over the main entry provides a void that allows northern light into the main bedroom. Interiors are lined with recycled timber, ply, concrete and stone
Solas House is a home of balance—between city energy and the calm of nature, between active family life and quiet retreat. Ben’s design allows our days to flow effortlessly, indoors and out, capturing the rhythm of our busy, sport-filled life. Named Solas, Gaelic for light, the home is filled with shifting patterns and seasonal reflections that move with us, bringing warmth, presence, and inspiration. Solas House isn’t just a place to live; it’s a home that allows us to live well.
