The Denise Glasgow Performing Arts Centre brings to life a long-standing vision for the Pimlico State High School for greater exposure, accessibility and inclusivity of their performing arts programs.
Flexibility is key to the internal layout, with 4 new specialists classrooms added to the school. These are separated with operable walls, that when combined create a performance venue offering seating for up to 650 people capable of playing host to the full range of artistic pursuits of the broader Townsville Community.
An outdoor courtyard with seating and landscaping incorporates a mature existing tree.
A carefully curated palette of materials including brick, concrete, profiled metal sheeting and gold sun screening responds to immediate civic context and broader climatic conditions of tropical North Queensland.
Opened in 2024, this new state of the art performance venue for Pimlico State High School brings to life a long-standing vision for the school held by current and former staff, students, and members of our community. This vision reflects an aspiration for greater exposure, accessibility, and inclusivity for the performing arts programs at Pimlico SHS. The facility is a statement project, that provides an array of speciality learning spaces for our students and has demonstrated opportunities for the school to connect with the broader public as host to a range of productions staged by local community groups.
