Corner House reimagines a modest Victorian maisonette through restraint rather than expansion, seeing the owner return after years living elsewhere. As a deliberate downsize, the home retains its heritage frontage while opening upward and inward to light and air. With limited capacity to alter the footprint, spatial generosity is achieved through height, carefully framed views and a folded roof form that draws northern light deep into the plan.
The home is designed for one, yet able to expand and contract for family and social gatherings. A front sewing and quilting studio reclaims the original bay window, while a tall, social kitchen anchors daily life at the rear, opening directly to a private courtyard. Above, a restrained upper level provides retreat among the treetops.
Small in scale and richly layered, Corner House celebrates calm, order and everyday rituals together with precise planning, material restraint and careful preservation of heritage character.
