Bidjigal and Gadigal peoples of the Eora Nation
New South Wales
The smell sun-dried bricks after summer rain" became a poetically charged starting point for this project, which is an exploration of domesticity, nostalgia, childhood and family intimacy. It is a private world, where the modest street address belies the variety of nested forms and surprising volumes in the interior.Â
Homes of my childhood drove a desire to build a fun house for our kids. The open plan, split-level design influenced our relationships and my Nan’s bold interiors and secret hiding spots piqued our imagination. Hannah designed our house to foster closeness and creativity alongside privacy and functionality. Tribe created intimate, communal areas that allow us to involve or separate ourselves depending on the demands of daily life. The materials are out of the ordinary, intricate designs cast shadows in cool patterns and rooms open up to let in breezes and the smells and sounds of nature. It’s simply beautiful.
