For a decade our clients camped on their Coles Bay bush block, overlooking the ancient mountain range, the Hazards, abutting the Freycinet National Park.
A shipping container provided basic shelter from the elements, as they developed their dream for a holiday home.
Our addition to this modest settlement is a sustainable small footprint pavilion, which adds much needed amenity to the site, yet ensures the built form is humbled by the awe-inspiring natural surroundings.
The new pavillion cradles the existing deck and BBQ area to create a central meeting place, a custom-made steel and timber batten sliding screen offers flexibility to adjust the privacy settings to this area.
Working with the existing site levels, the floor rises up at the northern end of the building. This creates an intimate scale of space to the private areas of the building and a generous volume over the main living space.
Our holiday home in Coles Bay has always been special, but the recent addition has transformed it into a true gathering place for friends and family.
Perfectly balancing connection and privacy, allowing our family to come together while giving everyone their own retreat. Now, we can host friends without feeling crowded, and extended family stays are seamless. The thoughtful layout encourages shared moments while respecting personal space.
While the new addition is beautiful its main strength is it feels like it was always meant to be there. We couldn’t be happier with how it has brought our family closer together.
