Bay View exemplifies a refined harmony of heritage and modernity, rooted in principles of transparency, openness, and contextual sensitivity. Designed as a sanctuary for an aging couple, it balances downsizing with lifelong adaptability, seamlessly integrating sweeping curved forms, expansive glazing, and tiered forms that follow the site's natural slope. The residence’s sculptural volumes and reflective silhouette evoke a vessel, harmonising with its waterfront setting while respecting the historic streetscape through retained heritage gestures. Functionally, it offers four bedrooms, flexible living spaces, and accessible features like a lift, ensuring comfort and privacy. The project’s excellence is amplified through collaborative integration with engineers, landscapers, and artisans, achieving structural elegance and meticulous detail. Sustainability is embedded through solar energy, water retention, and eco-conscious materials, fostering a low-impact lifestyle. Bay View is a poetic synthesis of architecture, strategy, and environment, an elegant waterside residence that elevates community dialogue while honouring its spectacular setting.
The project presented a complex brief: to modernise the home while respecting its historic fabric. Bronwyn resolved this with sensitivity and clarity, creating a contemporary dwelling that sits comfortably within its historic shell and embraces multi-generational living. Guests often arrive and immediately say “wow” at the sweeping Sydney Harbour views revealed through the considered use of glazing. For us, however, the real “wow” is quieter and more enduring, a home that genuinely reflects how we live and entertain, and one we feel fortunate to call our own and share with future generations.
