Media summary

The new head office for Tasmanian owned Bank of Us supports the organisation’s commitment to flexibility and wellbeing.

Located in a seven storey cross-laminated timber tower, the interior architecture balances the Bank’s bold brand identity with the base building’s sustainability driven restraint. The exposed columns, beams and services are celebrated, through a complementary primary palette of timber, soft greys and navy across joinery, partitions and floors. Pops of bold purple, gold and teal in furniture, feature floors and walls create spatial definition and identity, alongside the undulating acoustic ceiling.

A range of working styles are accommodated, from introspective private pods and quiet zones to sociable ‘co-labs’, benches and open plan workstations. Communal facilities including a kitchen ‘hub’, wellness room and breakout spaces support the Bank’s ‘desk for a day’ model, encouraging interaction and rest. A planted partition system completes the contemporary workplace, screening spaces while bringing the outside in

The new head office has transformed how we work and connect. Feedback from our people has been overwhelmingly positive, with many calling out the light, bright and modern environment and the energy lift that comes from natural light and greenery. Teams are connecting more informally, with stronger cross-team relationships and easier collaboration. The range of spaces supports different work modes, deep focus, quick alignment, workshops and virtual meetings, which improves flow and reduces friction. Practical touches like sit-stand desks and improved technology also improve comfort and productivity. In short, the design supports wellbeing, teamwork and the way we work today.
