The new home is located on Anzac Park, a quiet residential street running parallel to the nationally significant Anzac Parade. A knockdown‑rebuild unlocked the site’s potential and removed the constraints of the previously extended home.
By lifting the bedroom wing to a modest, loft‑like upper level, the ground floor was free to create north‑facing living spaces and garden, while establishing vistas back to the rare Anzac Parade outlook.
A long pitched roof defines the form, its playful asymmetry shaped by clerestory pop‑ups, protective eaves and concealed services. Brick and standing‑seam metal break down the massing, with brick and timber carried inside, and a slender metal pergola extending along the garden façade.
Passive design, refined shading, and high‑performance glazing underpin the home’s environmental strategy. Carefully resolved structure enables the distinctive roof and pergola, delivering a contemporary yet respectful addition to its civic setting.
Jess has done an amazing job of creating a home that meets our brief while being architecturally unique and striking from the street. The house works perfectly for our young family, with practical spaces that flow effortlessly. We love the six-metre timber-clad soffit above the kitchen, living, and dining area which makes the space feel huge and open. The standout feature for us is the circular brick staircase, which feels like a piece of art in the heart of the home, making everyday movement feel special.
