Media summary

In response to the heat and humidity, the house is designed with elevated living spaces to capture sea breezes, featuring timber-screened verandahs for shade and airflow. The undercroft provides a cooler area and views of the sea. Built with concrete and blockwork for cyclone resilience, the design incorporates lush landscaping and a triangular mangrove motif. Owners Jonno and Lisa prioritize community engagement, creating a home that reflects their relaxed lifestyle while fostering dialogue with neighbors.

I love coming home to my house. There is never a day when I do not think that. We love the rawness of the expressed concrete and the solidity under foot that it gives. It feels like living in a cave high up above the water. The house functions well without the use of airconditioning which we dont use much providing enough shade and air flow. We all especially love the pool located up on the living space which at the time seemed like a radical idea of the architects but now feels like it couldnt be any other way.
