44 Martin Place has witnessed the changing nature of Martin Place for 78 years and throughout that time has also undergone change. The State Heritage Listed building is an important contributor to the essence of Martin Place as the ‘Civic Heart of Sydney’ and it is vital that it continues to demonstrate the architectural quality and heritage that Martin Place is renowned for.
Retaining all of its heritage qualities, the transformation of 44 Martin Place has resulted in a highly desirable workplace offering flexible, internally connected and responsive amenity aligned with the demands of the tech savvy, health conscious and transformational tenants of the future.
The restoration has achieved greater transparency and connection to Martin Place at ground level; a simple materiality reminiscent of the building’s origins; and new connected floor plates that rise to a new pavilion and ‘Sydney’s Best Rooftop Garden’.
_44 Martin place inserts a modern workplace into an historic and much loved heritage building in a key civic location in Sydney. Whilst retaining the unique original character and building on an authentic environment, the insertion of a new connected atria, the introduction of a rooftop terrace, and the reinvention of the lobby provided a modern flexible workplace. This combination of authenticity, and the creation of additional valuable commercial space makes this a valuable addition to the Gwynvill portfolio and a unique contribution to the regeneration of Martin Place._
