Fuel, Transport and Supply Pressures: What We’re Hearing from Practice

The Institute recently undertook a national pulse survey to understand how fuel, transport and related supply pressures are affecting architectural practice and project delivery across Australia.

We saw strong engagement from practices of all sizes, with valuable insights confirming a consistent trend: rising costs and ongoing supply disruption are creating uncertainty across the project lifecycle—affecting feasibility, delaying commencements, and in some cases, preventing projects from proceeding altogether.

These findings have direct implications for housing supply, construction productivity and delivery certainty. They also highlight increasing risks to quality and compliance where cost pressures lead to product substitution and reduced design oversight.

These insights are informing our engagement with Federal, State and Territory governments. We are advocating for more resilient procurement models, greater transparency across supply chains, and settings that better support delivery in a volatile environment.

We thank members for their contributions. Your input is directly shaping our advocacy and the Institute’s next steps.

A national pulse survey of architectural practices has identified clear and consistent evidence that fuel, transport and related supply pressures are affecting project feasibility, delivery timing and commercial sustainability across the built environment. Practices report project delays, client hesitation, redesign, procurement stress and growing risks to quality and compliance.
