HONOURING INDIVIDUALS FOR THEIR EXEMPLARY WORK IN THE FIELDS OF ARCHITECTURE AND THE BUILT ENVIRONMENT
Over the years, the Institute has presented a range of National and Chapter prizes in recognition of one or more architects for their excellence in the profession, in their practice and for producing works that reflect the highest standards in architecture.
NATIONAL PRIZES
GOLD MEDAL FOR ARCHITECTURE
Awarded since 1960, the Gold Medal is the Institute’s highest honour and is awarded annually to either an Australian architect or a foreign architect with exceptional ties to Australia who has delivered the most distinguished services to promote or facilitate the knowledge of architecture.
NATIONAL PRESIDENT’S PRIZE
The National President’s Prize is given to individuals who have helped strengthen the profession through ways other than architectural design, practice or education. Entrants are not required to be an architect or member of the Institute, and they may reside in Australia or overseas.
EMERGING ARCHITECT PRIZE
This prize is accorded to emerging architects or emerging architectural collaborations whose contributions to practice have helped advance the profession’s important role within the public arena. Entrants must enter in the Chapter where they currently reside. Winners at a Chapter level proceed to be considered for the National Emerging Architect Prize.
DULUX STUDY TOUR
The Dulux Study Tour rewards five emerging architects or graduates of architecture who have made significant contributions in the field of architecture. Winners are given the opportunity to be a part of a ten-day study tour to major international cities.
LEADERSHIP IN SUSTAINABILITY PRIZE
Awarded to an individual or group, this prize recognises exceptional leadership and remarkable contribution to the advancement of sustainability of the built environment. Entrants may be nominated or self-nominated.
NEVILLE QUARRY ARCHITECTURAL EDUCATION PRIZE
This prize is presented to a group or individuals for outstanding contributions in architectural education, in the areas of teaching, research, leadership and/or community service. Entrants may either be nominated or self-nominate.
PAULA WHITMAN LEADERSHIP IN GENDER EQUITY PRIZE
Individuals or groups who have shown exceptional leadership and played a vital role in advancing gender equity in practice, education and governance may be nominated or self-nominate for this prize.
STUDENT PRIZE FOR THE ADVANCEMENT OF ARCHITECTURE
This prize recognises student members who have demonstrated high achievement in the areas of leadership, publication, community or education.
BLUESCOPE GLENN MURCUTT STUDENT PRIZE
Established in 2005, the Prize is presented biennially to recognise outstanding architectural student work demonstrating excellence in response to place, technology and Australian culture.
WILLIAM J MITCHELL INTERNATIONAL CHAPTER PRIZE
Awarded annually, this prize honours individuals who have made significant contributions to the profession in the global arena. Non-Institute members are also allowed to enter this award.
