Wyvern Private Hospital originated from the ambitious vision of a group of committed doctors whereby a world-class health facility would serve the local community and beyond. The Hospital’s extensive bushland setting within the ecologically sensitive Duffy’s Forest was a key design parameter and guided the pavilion style siting of the building. Sensitive scale and massing ensures minimal visual impact on adjacent semi-rural areas and places the building firmly within the landscape. Vistas through and of the landscape are celebrated. The slope of the site enables an abundance of natural light throughout the hospital including into operating theatres. The unearthing of excavated sandstone embeds both wards and ancillary zones within the landscape, these spaces in turn being enhanced by gardens that hug each of the pavilions. Through a simplicity of form, the intricacies and technically challenging hospital program are able to operate.
Wyvern Private Hospital has been a long time in the making. The team had a vision to deliver ‘care without compromise’ in an exceptional hospital environment that would attract the best doctors, nurses and other staff to deliver great patient outcomes. The finished product at Wyvern is second-to-none. Designed collaboratively with doctors, nurses and allied health professionals to make it an enjoyable place to work, plus the natural beauty that can be viewed and enjoyed from all corners of the building, has created an extraordinary hospital that has been worth the wait.
