The Saddle House was designed to accommodate multiple generations of the family on a working horse stud, nestled between two coastal mountains on the NSW mid north coast. The joy of this house is not only in it’s functional planning but how the three dimensional form with it’s pallet of colours, textures and finishes interacts with the surrounding landscape. Throughout the design and construction of the project, an unwavering dedication to the beauty of the site spearheaded. The placement and openness of the home was pivotal in this, both in maximising views and minimising separation from the environment.
Our brief was for a home that sits well in its environment, be practical and comfortable to live in for ourselves and our extended family when they visit and to take advantage of a northerly aspect.
The design of a long narrow ship-like structure not only nestles perfectly into the hill behind but what has been achieved is an open and airy, bright home with lots of gentle curves that holds its warmth in winter and allows the breeze to keep it cool in summer.
What we have been provided, by truly wonderful design, is a very easy living home!
