For over 100 years the Locomotive Workshop precinct was the engine room for Australia’s rail network, pioneering technology and advances in industry. This significant adaptive reuse project has restored the precinct to its former status as a technology powerhouse. The Locomotive Workshops have become a place for organizations of all shapes and sizes to find common ground to collaborate on the jobs and industries of the future.
With the design philosophy firmly rooted in creating a great urban experience, the Locomotive Workshops will become a new destination for all, making a positive contribution to Sydney and its rich heritage.
Mirvac’s revitalization of the Locomotive Workshops delivers a unique cultural and innovation hub for Sydney. A distinct heritage conversion offering world-class amenities located in the Central-to-Eveleigh rail corridor.
Mirvac placed strong emphasis on the celebration of the Locomotive Workshops’ heritage as the centrepiece of the precinct. This has been achieved through sensitive preservation of artefacts, restored machinery, public display areas, and a working blacksmith.
With the design philosophy rooted in the great urban experience, this project is a carefully considered conversion of a significant building that has successfully combined the existing heritage elements with a quality workplace and retail experience.
