The Beyond Uni Series SONA Office Crawl gives architecture students a unique opportunity into the inner-workings of different architecture practices.

By immersing in real-world application of their studies, students can hopefully have a clearer vision of what they are working towards. Architects can pass on their valuable knowledge that students could have never learned in University, fostering, and nurturing a more confident and better-informed generation of architects.

The overarching theme of this event revolves around architects' work and their inherent passions. It serves as a platform to illuminate the intricate ways in which architects channel their creative energies and how these passions transcend traditional boundaries. Furthermore, the event showcases the seamless synergy that architects foster with professionals from various disciplines, emphasizing the multidisciplinary nature of contemporary architectural practice.

This series provides a platform for engagement, mentorship and networking between students and practicing architecture.

Practice Bio

COLLINS AND TURNER is an award-winning architecture and urban design practice based in Surry Hills, Sydney. Our team is deeply committed to crafting distinctive structures, environments, and spaces that harmoniously unite people and the natural landscape while honouring the traditions and conditions of country.

The practice works across Australia and internationally on a broad spectrum of commercial, residential, and public projects, providing full architectural and interior design services, master planning.
COLLINS AND TURNER has won awards and citations for design excellence at Australian state, national, and international levels, including multiple AIA Architecture Awards. In 2013, Collins and Turner were awarded the John Sulman Medal for outstanding public architecture.

Ongoing projects include residential, cultural, sport and recreation buildings in Sydney and regional New South Wales.

The diverse work of the studio is driven by a consistent philosophical approach, not a predetermined architectural style. As a result, we aim to create considered buildings that are intimately connected to the circumstances and needs of our clients, as well as the individual pragmatic specifics of context and function – our designs are concerned with the unique physical context of a place, sensitive to each particular local culture and climate. We are honest with materials, innovative with their potential, and aim to reduce visual clutter in their detailing.
The work of the practice is based upon a solid foundation of design excellence, cost management and program control, proficient design team management, and the achievement of best value and highest architectural quality.

Working directly with the project architects and project teams, Penny and Huw are actively involved in the design and supervision of each project from inception through detailed planning, construction, and to handover.

We believe that design excellence comes only from the continual application of rigour to the design process, and intensive and continual dialogue. Dialogue with our clients, consultants, contractors, stakeholders, and end users. We work closely and always as part of a team to ensure the best results are achieved for our clients, through a careful and holistic quest for conceptual originality, beauty, and the successful integration of an always diverse range of functional requirements.
