Overview

Planned Cover are the general insurance broker owned by the Australian Institute of Architects. Drawing on their experience with disputes, as well as court decisions on litigated claims, this seminar reviews case studies of claims against construction professionals and considers how the risk of claims can be reduced.

Learning objectives:
Following completion of this seminar you will: understand some of the causes of claims brought against design professionals and the recurring triggers for those claims; be aware of the courts’ approach to allocating liability; and be able to apply risk management strategies to reduce your exposure to liability.

Wendy Poulton

Wendy has been a Risk Manager since 2005, providing plain English advice on consultancy agreements, training consultants in risk management, and creating guidance materials on emerging challenges in the construction industry. She has lectured on insurance and risk management at RMIT and the University of Melbourne. Previously, Wendy was a solicitor in the Commercial and Insurance Litigation section of Hunt and Hunt. She was admitted as a solicitor in 1997, and completed a Masters in Construction Law in 2011.
