Overview

An important element of risk management for construction professional is the ability to limit their assumption of risk and exposure to liability during the construction phase of a project. This seminar highlights some of the risks which you may be exposed to when providing services during construction and will assist you to address those risks through the development of, amongst other things, an appropriate scope of services. We also consider the trend of retaining consultants to provide partial services on projects.

This seminar provides one informal CPD point.

Learning outcomes:
Following the completion of this seminar, you will be able to identify common risks in answering RFIs and dealing with project managers; describe and perform site visits without exposing yourself to unnecessary risk; and recognise some key areas of risk in OH&S and performing partial services.

Practice Management and Professional Conduct
PC 6
Be able to apply appropriate processes for reporting and varying the scope of services provided by an architect.
PC 14 Be able to identify and apply construction services provisions and/or construction administration systems needed to fulfil all obligations appropriate to the procurement process in accordance with the terms of the agreement.

Design Delivery and Construction Phase Services
PC 48 Be able to select and implement project administration systems, based upon an assessment of the selected procurement method and its implications on project delivery.
PC 54 Be able to monitor construction progress and quality as required under the provisions of the construction contract, which may include site visits.
PC 56 Be able to apply appropriate and consistent systems for indenfication of defects, rectifications and approval of substitutions.

KATHRYN BUDD

Kathryn commenced at informed by Planned Cover in 2018 as a Risk Manager in NSW.

She holds bachelor degrees in law and economics and was admitted as a solicitor to the Supreme Court of New South Wales in 2011. Before joining informed by Planned Cover, Kathryn practised as a solicitor in insurance and commercial litigation and prior to that she worked as an associate to a judge in the Federal Circuit Court. Kathryn draws on her insurance and legal experience when advising and training construction professionals on key risks in consultancy agreements.

Cos is an economics graduate and a qualified practising insurance broker (QPIB). He is also a member of the Australian Insurance Law Association and has over 30 years' of insurance experience. He is currently the national business manager of Planner Cover and manager of the company's ST/TAS client base, and has been specialising in the provision of professional indemnity / liability insurance and risk / claims management advice to construction professional for over 25 years.
