Overview

Led by Institiute Fellow Ben Walker, "Studio Share" are virtual sessions that showcase the exciting and diverse practice of our members.

Join us to hear from Courtney Walmsley for her presentation 'Interface [Cemetery: :City] - Future of the dead in cities'.

Growing cities face the ongoing problem of overcrowded cemeteries and how to respectfully commemorate and dispose of our dead. To meet demand, new larger cemeteries are being built on the outskirts of cities.
Cemeteries and spaces for the dead, however, contribute more to a city than just the disposal of remains and memorial of the dead.

The session will look at the impact of our traditional forms of cemetery, explore innovation and potential future forms of death space in cities. The session will also touch on the sustainability of current and potential future forms of spaces for the dead.  Majority of the research presented was completed as an Alastair Swayn Foundation Intern in 2022. The Alastair Swayn Internship Program is a joint initiative between the Alastair Swayn Foundation, the ACT Government and the University of Canberra.

A Zoom link for the session will be shared upon registration.
Please note this is a free event, exclusive for Institute members.
