Tapestry – a tool for open source building performance data

Tapestry is an open-source database for Architecture, Engineering, Construction and Real Estate. Content curators from around the world are able to sign up and submit open source data regarding building and project performance. A sample of the data included is project scope, location, performance, typology, awards, features, recycling program, specifications and summary.

The Not for Profit site was founded by Ken Sanders FAIA and Jonathan Schechter, with a mission to educate and inform the AEC industry with open source data to inform future designs. With an advisory board consisting of ThontonThomasetti, DIALOG, DLR Group, ch2m, Perkins+Will, AECOM, Gensler, Glumac, Interface and more the site has been created by industry for industry and is particularly innovative when examining high-performance architecture, products and materials. The sharing of such data is designed to assist designers when speaking to clients, by having the ability to demonstrate where certain technologies or strategies have been implemented previously.

In this session, Ken Sanders provides us with an overview of the site, how firms can utilise the data and contribute to its growth.
