VALE MICHAEL ANTONY ROUSSOS FRAIA

It is with sadness that we mark the passing of Michael Antony Roussos FRAIA, who passed away last Thursday.

Michael was born in Greece and migrated to Australia as a child in 1958. He was educated in Tasmania, and accumulated over 40 years of experience in architecture. After commencing his career in the public housing sector, Michael practiced at associate, partner or director level in a number of well-known architectural practices in Tasmania, most notably as Michael Roussos Architects.

Michael’s extensive experience included residential, commercial, and industrial, with specialist experience in health and aged care. Colleagues remember him for his depth of experience, his many stories, his wonderful sense of humour and his generosity in mentoring younger architects.

Michael was an active member of the Institute, and was presented with a Fellowship of the Institute in 1989. After his retirement, he continued to advocate for the profession through involvement in Open House Hobart through his association with the Greek Community of Tasmania.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a funeral service for Michael to be held at the Greek Orthodox Church of St George, Antill St, South Hobart on Tuesday 22 October, commencing at 11:00 am. Following this service interment will take place at our Cornelian Bay Cemetery at approx. 12:30 pm. In lieu of floral tributes, donations to St George would be appreciated and may be left at the service.

The Institute sends its condolences to Michael’s family and friends.
