Queensland’s peak architecture body elects new President to elevate the state’s design

The Australian Institute of Architects’ Queensland Chapter has welcomed Michael Lavery to the role of President. For the next two years, Michael will lead the Chapter’s vital work to help ensure good design is prioritised for the state’s buildings, public spaces and built environs where Queenslanders live, work and recreate.

Michael Lavery is a Director of m3architecture and has long been an advocate for the power of well-considered design to deliver positive environmental, cultural and economic outcomes for Queensland communities. Michael was elected as President by members of the Institute.

“Architecture has the capacity to deliver truly transformational change,” Michael says. “As we face unprecedented environmental and population challenges, our profession is uniquely positioned to deliver places which will nurture, protect and positively impact generations to come.”

Improving the design of Queensland’s buildings and public spaces, through Government and private-sector consultation and advocacy, are chief among Michael’s aspirations for his tenure as President. He also hopes to raise the public profile of architects and the valuable contribution they make to our cities and communities.

Chapter Councillors elected

In addition to the appointment of Michael Lavery, the Queensland Chapter is pleased to announce the following architects as Councillors Paul Worroll, Lisa Moore, Jim Gall, Belinda Allwood and Paul Jones. These architects will be joining others who are currently on the Council, namely Lindy Atkin, Leah Gallagher, Rosemary Kennedy, Penny Campbell and Paul Trotter (Immediate Past President). The Institute’s student and emerging architects sector are also represented on Chapter Council.
