National Committee for Gender Equity – Call for Expressions of Interest: New committee members

The Australian Institute of Architects National Committee for Gender Equity (NCGE) is seeking four (4) new members to bring energy, enthusiasm and ideas to its next two-year term. For a diverse committee, participants of all genders, backgrounds and career stages are encouraged to apply.

The NCGE implements and manages the Institute’s Gender Equity Policy, provides advice on matters related to gender equity, and oversees outward-facing equity initiatives of the Institute. The NCGE recognises commitment, showcases progress and celebrates success by demonstrating thought leadership on gender equity. This includes participating in the judging of the annual Paula Whitman Leadership in Gender Equity Prize.

The NCGE’s key tasks in 2020 will be:

  1. Writing an overarching Diversity, Inclusion and Equity Policy for review by National Council;
  2. Liaising with chapter based gender equity groups to coordinate initiatives nationally; and
  3. Identifying and broadcasting actions that both the Institute and Institute members can take to improve gender equity and representation in the profession;
  4. Providing advice to the Institute with respect to nominations for external honours programs such as the Australia Day Honours.

Commitment

New members commence their two-year term in May by attending the annual face-to-face meeting. Monthly one-hour teleconference attendance and contributing to task groups on an as-needs basis is expected of all members. Communications are predominantly via email and teleconference.

Obligations

Committee members are expected to conduct themselves and participate in the NCGE activities in an accountable and professional manner, as per the Institute’s Code of Conduct.
