National bushfire response update

Despite the fires in some Victorian and NSW regions being contained through cooler temperatures and limited rainfall, we’re all too aware that Australia’s fire season is far from over.

As already communicated to you and the public, this is not a short-term crisis, and we need the support of the architectural profession to join us as we face this crisis together. When the fires clear, we will need to not only replace what has been lost, but build back better.

With this in mind, we wanted to keep you up to date on new developments in our collective response effort.

ARCHITECTS ASSIST

The Architects Assist website continues to receive significant attention from volunteering members, the media and the public at large. At last count we’ve received responses from over 500 architectural practices and more than 1,000 graduate and student architects.

As more and more professionals register their interest in joining the long term support program we’re now mapping their locations, unique skills sets and practice structures and will, in future iterations, show the regions across where members feel they can offer physical, design and other related services in collaboration with local and regulatory authorities.

ARCHITECTS DONATE

We’re now working towards the launch of the architectural profession’s financial response to the crisis – Architects Donate – during the first week of February.

Stay tuned for our Architects Donate pack which can be used to generate awareness through your own social media channels and connections and help us provide much needed financial support to those most affected across the country.

COLLABORATION ACROSS THE PROFESSIONS

Julia Cambage, CEO and Michael Linke, General Manager – Membership Services, have been working hard to engage with other senior leaders of relevant built-environment member organisations the Australian Institute of Landscape ArchitectsEngineers Australia and others yet to come aboard.

A truly significant and meaningful response impact on those regions and lives affected can only come from genuine collaboration across the professional bodies mentioned and once agreements have been finalised, we will communicate the arrangements and initiatives to you all.
