November is set to be a great month for architecture!

Later this week I will be in Darwin for two great events: the presentation of the 2014 National Architecture Awards and AusIndoArch – Tropfix.

While these are two very different events, they are both important to the profession. The awards is a significant opportunity to showcase and promote the work that Australian architects are doing – to industry and the broader community; while AusIndoArch is about architects coming together to unpack particular issues, in particular designing for the tropics.

For those of you not heading to the Top End, keep an eye on your inbox, as we will be sending out an awards recap on Friday.

Ahead of the National Awards, our inaugural People’s Choice Award was announced on Friday. Congratulations to James Russell Architect for taking out top honours with Oxlade Drive House in Brisbane. This award has proven a very popular program and attracted 2500 votes. Thanks to Dulux for supporting this initiative.

Next week the website (and registrations) go live for RISK – the 2015 National Architecture Conference. Some of the guest speakers will be announced as well as other tantalising details. Also, keep a look out for the launch issue of RISK News, which will be coming your way Tue 11 Nov.

Before I go, just a reminder that a number of architecture festivals are taking place this month, including Sydney Architecture Festival, which opened last weekend and runs until 10 November, and Architecture Week in Tasmania, which runs from 17 to 22 November.

Kind regards,

David Karotkin
