SUMMARY:Living Design Series | Sustainability in Affordable Housing Design - Inala Infill Case Study
DESCRIPTION:The Living Design Series emphasises sustainable and adaptable design solutions\, showcasing building and their spaces as dynamic entities that serve the needs of users. It initiates dialogue on how design can shape healthier and more resilient environments for people and the planet.  This series has been curated by the Queensland Climate Action and Sustainability Committee. The series will consist of four consecutive webinars. Each webinar will include a 40-minute presentation followed by a Q&A session. Our November 2026 webinar\, Inala Infill Apartments is a QLD State Government Demonstration Project under the Density and Diversity Done Well housing initiative\, consisting of fourteen dwellings across 2 storeys. The projects seeks to enhance opportunities for social engagement between residents through accessible gardens and carefully gradated layers of privacy to units. Nature based relationships to the site are offered through integrated landscape and architectural elements\, through which visible structural timber surfaces and planting both bring the biophilic benefits of a sensory experience of nature. The project also demonstrates the benefits of utilising modern methods of construction including Cross Laminated Timber in public housing infrastructure.

SUMMARY:Value Talk 09: SLQ Revisited
DESCRIPTION:It has been 20 years since the State Library of Queensland was redeveloped by Donovan Hill and Peddle Thorp Architects\, expanding the 1980s brutalist building by Robin Gibson and Partners to create one of Australia’s most cherished public spaces. To celebrate this anniversary\, we will look back at the collaborative design process between the architects and the client. We will then unpack the impact that this redevelopment has had on public space and design practice in Brisbane and beyond.

SUMMARY:Archibubs x Value Talk 08: Public Space\, Play and Possibilities
DESCRIPTION:What might our public spaces make possible if we made more room for play? In the upcoming Value Talk\, Public Spaces\, Play and Possibilities\, we will  explore how play can spark curiosity\, bring people together and make our public spaces more welcoming for everyone. From art and architecture to the everyday places we share\, we’ll consider how design can invite us to explore and connect with our surroundings and with one another. How can a familiar place invite an unexpected encounter? What can children’s ways of seeing and using space teach us? And how can designers create opportunities for people of different ages\, abilities and backgrounds to join in? Through projects\, ideas and experiences\, our speakers will share how they approach these questions in practice. We’ll explore the processes and materials that open up possibilities for play\, and what it takes to bring those possibilities to life. Join us for a conversation about imagination\, belonging and what our public spaces could become.
