SUMMARY:The Climate Forum | Hobart Watch Party
DESCRIPTION:2024 represents a new world where global temperatures have breached the 1.5°C warming limit. This is attributed to anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions of which 30–40 per cent of it can be attributed to the building and construction industry. As practitioners in the built environment\, we are complicit in this. Be a part of positive change and join us at the Tasmanian Chapter Office Friday 6th September anytime from 2pm. Students from the UTAS School of Architecture and Design will also be joining us at 3.15 for Dominque Chen’s keynote!  Light refreshments will be provided at 4pm.

SUMMARY:SITE VISIT | THE TASMANIAN HOUSE 3 | JIRI LEV ARCHITECTURE
DESCRIPTION:Housing crisis\, affordability crisis\, environmental crisis\, health and healthcare crisis\, social cohesion crisis – are our current conditions exceptional? It may be argued that these in fact always informed and propelled life. What has changed however is our autonomy in dealing with these challenges. Up until the middle of the last century\, it was common for whole villages and suburbs to be built by groups of neighbours lending each other hand\, constructing simple yet practical homes\, creating cohesive neighbourhoods. The Tasmanian House 3\, currently under construction\, is not another innovative\, original-at-all-cost\, architectural masterpiece\, nor an attempt to find one more new answer to the questions we face. Instead\, tracing back our footsteps to where the way was lost\, the project seeks to return the accountability\, agency and ability to influence one’s own lot back to the common man. It is not trying to reinvent the wheel but rather remember what the wheel was. Open source plans for the Tasmanian House 2 have been downloaded over 8000 times and many are currently under construction. The current project is conceived as a practical learning and teaching opportunity for architecture students\, graduates\, architects and general public\, at different times\, focusing on proven track record in buildability\, affordability\, sustainability\, health improvement and liveability.
