SUMMARY:Living Design Series: Unlocking the Potential of Existing City Assets
DESCRIPTION:The Living Design Series emphasises sustainable and adaptable design solutions\, showcasing building and their spaces as dynamic entities that serve the needs of users. It initiates dialogue on how design can shape healthier and more resilient environments for people and the planet.  This series has been curated by the Queensland Climate Action and Sustainability Committee.   The series will consist of four consecutive webinars. Each webinar will include a 40-minute presentation followed by a Q&A session.  The May 2026 webinar\, “Unlocking the Potential of Existing City Assets\,” explores how reimagining workplaces can reinvest in ageing office stock. Through adaptive reuse\, projects reduce carbon impact while enhancing user experience and supporting CBD revitalisation.  The session highlights architect-led approaches such as designing within constraints to unlock spatial value\, embedding circular design through retention and material reuse\, and working with Queensland developers to demonstrate design and commercial benefits. It also covers early contractor collaboration and strategies to improve daylight\, ventilation\, and climate resilience. Case studies such as 450 Queen Street and Midtown Centre show how adaptive reuse extends asset life and creates flexible\, connected workplaces.  Together\, these approaches demonstrate how reuse can deliver environmental and commercial value while shaping resilient\, people-focused cities.

SUMMARY:Regenerative Design Forum: Restoring Ecosystems in Built and Unbuilt Environments
DESCRIPTION:How can architecture and landscape actively restore ecosystems rather than simply reduce harm? This talk explores regenerative design perspectives\, ranging from biophilic and ecological design to living systems thinking. This is illustrated through built and unbuilt projects across Melbourne and beyond\, including courtyard typologies\, riverbank rewilding\, and urban ecological connectivity strategies.
