SUMMARY:Open Space Conversation | B Corp Framework
DESCRIPTION:This March the Tasmanian Chapter’s sustainability committee welcomes Lucia Wellington\, an Associate at Cumulus in Launceston Tasmania. Join us as Lucia shares the experiences Cumulus has had in becoming a B Corp certified company. There are 18 B Corp certified Architects in Australia. Cumulus is the only Tasmanian certified practice. The global B Corp certification model places social and environmental value on a similar magnitude of importance to economic value within a business. Working in a profession that contributes significantly to global greenhouse emissions\, Cumulus uses the B Corp framework to ensure there is balance between purpose and profit. This framework also ensures there is accountability and continuous improvement within the practice. The Open Space Conversation series will be led by the Sustainability Committee chair\, Dr Mark Dewsbury\, and the committee to create time and space for people to engage in meaningful conversation about key issues in sustainability.

SUMMARY:Applications of AI Data in Architecture: Case Studies from Practice
DESCRIPTION:This CPD session explores how artificial intelligence is already reshaping architectural practice\, moving beyond notions of ‘AI as automation’ towards AI as design intelligence. Through a series of real-world building case studies\, the session examines how AI is being applied across key stages of architectural work – from early design option exploration and performance prediction to embodied carbon assessment\, circular material strategies\, construction optimisation\, and post-occupancy learning.

SUMMARY:EmAGN |Learning from Bamboo
DESCRIPTION:Kick off 2026 and join NT EmAGN Team for an inspiring event! Bamboo is rapidly reshaping conversations around sustainable architecture. As a renewable\,  carbon-sequestering material\, it offers a compelling alternative to the carbon-intensive systems that dominate construction today. But what is bamboo\, really? How do we work with it? And what might it teach us about building more responsibly? In this talk\, Ilma Ali shares her personal journey into discovering bamboo as a building material\, from initial curiosity to immersive learning. Blending first-hand insight with thoughtful reflection\, this is an honest and accessible introduction to bamboo\, not only as a resource\, but as a teacher guiding a more responsive\, grounded approach to design and construction.  This event is also online.

SUMMARY:Success in Architectural Practice with Dr Mark Jones
DESCRIPTION:Dr Mark Jones LFRAIA is a highly regarded Australian architect whose career integrates Director roles in small and large practice\, institutional leadership\, and advanced academic teaching and research at the University of Queensland\, School of Architecture\, Design and Planning. Mark’s new book\, ‘Success in Architectural Practice’ sets out the simple\, yet profound proposition that genuine success as an architect is founded on three mutually reinforcing pillars: Excellence\, Happiness and Profit. This notion is presented as a practical\, evidence-based framework drawn from the author’s own experience\, management theory\, and the lived experience of over forty highly respected architects from across Australia and New Zealand. The book is structured around four headings: Foundations\, Positioning\, Finances and Management. Mark will present the findings of his research into successful architectural practice\, with some focus on the Finance section. The event will be opened by Professor Ali Cheshmehzangi\, Dean and Head of School University of Queensland\, School of Architecture\, Design and Planning. Peter Dawson\, Industry Fellow at UQ\, will Chair the event.
