New buildings and contemporary insertions complement the original\, creating adaptable teaching and collaborative spaces for Business\, Economics\, Humanities\, and Social Sciences\, and reactivating this landmark for the University of Tasmania.

Lovell Chen with Hansen Yuncken have sympathetically restored the building to its original glory\, as a purpose-built learning and teaching facility for the University of Tasmania.

DESCRIPTION:The Supreme Court of Hobart is an exemplary\, enduring piece of public architecture that makes a poised contribution to the city of Hobart. The plaza between the two court buildings creates a diagonal landscape link between St David’s Park\, the adjacent Parliament House and the Sullivans Cove waterfront. The Court strives to combine the Modernist concept of an ‘alien object floating in the landscape’ with contextual regard to the neighbouring buildings and street. Join Supreme Court judges and architect\, Peter Partridge\, on a unique guided tour of the highest court in the state\, which includes court rooms\, underground tunnels and criminal holding cells. Inside\, marvel at the Modernist details and exquisite Tasmanian timber joinery of the court rooms while judges share their insight into the judicial process. The Supreme Court\, Hobart\, by Department of Public Works/Peter Partridge won the 25 Year Award for Enduring Architecture at the Australian Institute of Architect’s 2010 National Architecture Awards.

DESCRIPTION:Placed carefully within the parameters of an existing approved building envelope\, the Flowerpot house presents living spaces to the forested waterfront escapement. A purposeful wall to the west protects privacy & sight lines from the road above the site\, while also providing a sequence of entry. The demarcation curates afternoon light through the home’s interior. Opening to the north\, social spaces flood with sunlight while sleeping spaces and a small working studio tuck more privately to the south. This is a simple home for rural living that is mindful of its scale within the broader context.

SUMMARY:OPEN HOUSE HOBART 2025 | JANE COLLEGE
DESCRIPTION:Founded by the Tasmanian Council of Churches in 1950\, Jane College was established as an all-female\, non-denominational Christian College in an 1885 house. Its namesake\, Jane\, Lady Franklin\, wife of Tasmanian Governor and explorer Sir John Franklin\, was an early advocate for women’s education in colonial society. Through subsequent building extensions\, additions\, and acquisitions from the 1950s onwards\, Jane’s campus preserves an array of architectural styles\, including mid-century student accommodation\, and a historically significant fishpond dating to the 1850s. The College has recently undergone some refurbishment\, engaging stylist Meg Clark and local artist Hamish Hall.
