SUMMARY:EmAGN x SONA Sustainability Snacks | Zero Carbon Housing Challenge #2
DESCRIPTION:Sustainability Snacks is a series of short online sessions that aim to demystify sustainability in practice. In just 30 minutes\, we will hear from a practitioner on how they are reducing their impact.  Join us for our next Sustainability Snack on Tuesday 9 June\, where our next sustainability snack will continue on from last month and provide details on the importance of carbon modelling in the design phase of residential projects and how you can get involved by modelling your own low to medium density projects. We’ll show you where to find all the important info to help you get started and join architects from all around the country who are making a difference by reducing upfront carbon and life cycle operating energy in buildings.

SUMMARY:Consultants as Partners: Enhancing Architectural Practice | Formal CPD Series
DESCRIPTION:This session brings together critical insights across design\, engineering and user experience to examine how building performance\, occupant needs and long-term outcomes intersect in practice. It explores the often-overlooked impact of stair pressurisation systems on architectural planning\, safety and buildability\, alongside lessons from real projects on the importance of early\, multidisciplinary coordination. Complementing this technical lens\, it presents national research into apartment owner preferences and emerging trends shaping future housing design.

SUMMARY:Communicating the Value of Architecture to Clients
DESCRIPTION:Architects can no longer rely solely on word-of-mouth referrals or polished project photography to win new work. In an increasingly competitive and uncertain economic environment\, architecture practices must recognise the critical role that website messaging plays in attracting the right clients\, communicating value\, and building trust and credibility.

SUMMARY:Design Intelligence: Civic in Nature: Design in Service of the City and its People
DESCRIPTION:Design Intelligence is conceived as a recurring Victorian Chapter forum focused on design thinking rather than finished work. The series positions architecture as an evolving intellectual practice – tested through built work\, challenged through works in progress\, and sharpened through debate. Our third event is jointly presented through the AIA and Urban Design Forum Australia.  Its focus is on urban scale projects that have a civic impact on the wider city and\, crucially\, provide a degree of generosity for people that improves the overall urban condition.  The discussion will examine how design intelligence is formed\, transferred\, and contested over time between the project authors and the stakeholder and communities they serve.

SUMMARY:Member Lean In | Planetary Boundaries: Creating a non-toxic\, ecologically restorative and transparent materials economy
DESCRIPTION:The built environment is increasingly shifting from a focus on “less harm” toward regenerative design – where buildings actively contribute to the health of people\, ecosystems\, and material cycles. This is the first in a three-part Lean In series exploring regenerative materials and the role of specification\, research\, and design decision-making in enabling this shift in practice. Across the series\, speakers will examine how architects and designers can rethink material selection through the lenses of human health\, carbon\, circularity\, and ecological regeneration. Part 1 reframes material selection through the lens of human and ecological health. It explores how everyday specifications impact indoor environments\, supply chains\, and ecosystems — and what it means to move beyond “low toxicity” toward regenerative materials that actively contribute to ecological and human wellbeing. Join Martha Lewis (Henning Larsen) and Nicola Smith (Living Future Oceania) as they discuss the evolving role of architects and designers in shaping healthier built environments\, the opportunities and challenges of specifying healthier materials\, and the value of transparency and regenerative thinking in redefining and achieving true sustainability in practice. Each session will prioritise practical insights and clear takeaways\, enabling participants to apply learning directly to their projects and practice and to consider ‘What should I do differently on Monday morning?’.

SUMMARY:Member Lean In | Evaluating Sustainable Materials and Building Systems
DESCRIPTION:The built environment is increasingly shifting from a focus on “less harm” toward regenerative design – where buildings actively contribute to the health of people\, ecosystems\, and material cycles.  This is the second in a three-part Lean In series focused on assessing sustainable materials and embedding regenerative design as part of projects and in everyday practice. The overarching series explores the role of material specification\, research and design considerations that enable this shift.  In Part 2 of this Lean In series we explore how architects and designers can evaluate\, compare\, and measure materials and building systems in the design process. We hear from Lucy Marsland (Atelier Ten) and Adam Kolsrud (Wardle) on how sustainability value systems have been embedded in their practice and the considerations\, tools and methods for assessing upfront carbon in materials and building systems on projects. Each session will prioritise practical insights and clear takeaways\, enabling participants to apply learning directly to their projects and practice and to consider ‘What should I do differently on Monday morning?’.

SUMMARY:Living Design Series | First Nations Guidance and Advocacy
DESCRIPTION:The LivingThe Living Design Series emphasises sustainable and adaptable design solutions\, showcasing building and their spaces as dynamic entities that serve the needs of users. It initiates dialogue on how design can shape healthier and more resilient environments for people and the planet.  This series has been curated by the Queensland Climate Action and Sustainability Committee. The series will consist of four consecutive webinars. Each webinar will include a 40-minute presentation followed by a Q&A session. Our August 2026 webinar\, First Nations Guidance and Advocacy\, features Michael Mossman and Shaneen Fantin from the Australian Institute of Architects’ First Nations Advisory Committee. Together\, they will explore how guidance\, collaboration\, and community-led action can strengthen engagement with First Nations Peoples and Country. The session highlights two initiatives shaping built environment practice: Walk Together: Design Guided by Country\, a free resource launching in August 2026 to support meaningful First Nations engagement in design\, and the Wrights Creek land care project on Yidinji Country\, where a local initiative led by the Gimuy Rangers of Cairns has grown into a powerful network of care and advocacy for Country. Together\, these projects demonstrate how thoughtful guidance and community leadership can foster more culturally responsive and place-based approaches to design and stewardship.

SUMMARY:Member Lean In | Delivering Circularity\, Reuse\, and Regeneration in Practice
DESCRIPTION:The built environment is increasingly shifting from a focus on “less harm” toward regenerative design – where buildings actively contribute to the health of people\, ecosystems\, and material cycles.  This is the third and final session in a three-part Lean In series exploring regenerative materials and the role of specification\, research\, and design decision-making in enabling this shift in practice. Across the series\, speakers examine how architects and designers can rethink material selection through the lenses of human health\, carbon\, circularity\, and ecological regeneration. Building on recent industry momentum around circularity\, Part 3 focuses on implementation – how regenerative intent can be translated into documentation\, procurement\, and construction processes. The session explores how circular thinking can move beyond isolated acts of reuse toward more integrated approaches to material lifecycles\, deconstruction\, procurement\, and long-term stewardship. Join Bettina Robinson and Tim Brooks (Fieldwork)\, alongside Richard Stokes and Cameron McIntosh (Arup)\, as they discuss practical approaches to circular specification\, designing for deconstruction and material reuse\, and the realities of implementation across projects and supply chains. Through applied case studies and interdisciplinary perspectives\, the session will explore contractor considerations including cost\, risk\, warranties\, logistics\, and the opportunities for embedding circular thinking into everyday practice. Each session will prioritise practical insights and clear takeaways\, enabling participants to apply learning directly to their projects and practice and to consider ‘What should I do differently on Monday morning?’.
