SUMMARY:Communicating the Value of Architecture to Clients
DESCRIPTION:Architects can no longer rely solely on word-of-mouth referrals or polished project photography to win new work. In an increasingly competitive and uncertain economic environment\, architecture practices must recognise the critical role that website messaging plays in attracting the right clients\, communicating value\, and building trust and credibility.

SUMMARY:EmAGN x SONA Sustainability Snacks | Zero Carbon Housing Challenge 3
DESCRIPTION:Sustainability Snacks is a series of short online sessions that aim to demystify sustainability in practice. In just 30 minutes\, we will hear from a practitioner on how they are reducing their impact.  Join us for our next Sustainability Snack on Tuesday 1 July\, where our next sustainability snack will continue on from last month and provide details on the importance of carbon modelling in the design phase of residential projects and how you can get involved by modelling your own low to medium density projects. We’ll show you where to find all the important info to help you get started and join architects from all around the country who are making a difference by reducing upfront carbon and life cycle operating energy in buildings.

SUMMARY:Consultants as Partners: Enhancing Architectural Practice | Formal CPD Series
DESCRIPTION:This session brings together critical insights across design\, engineering and user experience to examine how building performance\, occupant needs and long-term outcomes intersect in practice. It explores the often-overlooked impact of stair pressurisation systems on architectural planning\, safety and buildability\, alongside lessons from real projects on the importance of early\, multidisciplinary coordination. Complementing this technical lens\, it presents national research into apartment owner preferences and emerging trends shaping future housing design.

SUMMARY:Design Choices | Northern Memorial Park Depot
DESCRIPTION:This session examines how sustainability and human-centred design can be established as core drivers of architectural decision-making\, rather than layered onto projects as secondary considerations. Using the Northern Memorial Park Depot – recipient of the 2025 AIA National Award for Commercial Architecture\, Victorian Architecture Medal\, and Melbourne Prize – as a case study\, the presentation explores how an inherently utilitarian brief can be transformed and reframed as a civic opportunity.

SUMMARY:Applying AI in Architecture | Formal CPD Series
DESCRIPTION:This five-part lecture series provides a structured\, practice-oriented understanding of how artificial intelligence is reshaping architecture\, yet not as a toolset\, but as an operational paradigm. It moves from foundational framing (AI’s current limitations and task-specific deployment) to its implications across three interlinked domains: design practice\, professional identity\, and business models.

SUMMARY:Leadership in Practice | Formal CPD Series
DESCRIPTION:Leadership in Practice is a practical webinar series for architects and forward-thinking practitioners who want stronger leadership and better commercial outcomes – without compromising design integrity. Across four focused sessions\, participants will connect personal values to life-first goals and develop the mindset required to lead well under pressure. This includes learning decision tools to reduce overload\, protect what matters during busy periods\, and build simple resilience habits for individuals and practices.

SUMMARY:Design Choices | Shiel Street Community Housing
DESCRIPTION:Though a balance of rational and resident prioritised design strategies\, Shiel Street Community Housing verifies the notion that quality housing can be understated\, affordable and delightful. This CPD session will focus on design strategies employed for this award-winning project. More broadly\, it intends to demonstrate how this as a case study carries lessons for other housing projects to deliver rational and resident-prioritised outcomes. This session will enable architects and designers to apply more informed strategies for medium density housing to their own practice.

SUMMARY:Applications of AI Data in Architecture: Case Studies from Practice
DESCRIPTION:This CPD session explores how artificial intelligence is already reshaping architectural practice\, moving beyond notions of ‘AI as automation’ towards AI as design intelligence. Through a series of real-world building case studies\, the session examines how AI is being applied across key stages of architectural work – from early design option exploration and performance prediction to embodied carbon assessment\, circular material strategies\, construction optimisation\, and post-occupancy learning.

SUMMARY:Open Space Conversation | B Corp Framework
DESCRIPTION:This March the Tasmanian Chapter’s sustainability committee welcomes Lucia Wellington\, an Associate at Cumulus in Launceston Tasmania. Join us as Lucia shares the experiences Cumulus has had in becoming a B Corp certified company. There are 18 B Corp certified Architects in Australia. Cumulus is the only Tasmanian certified practice. The global B Corp certification model places social and environmental value on a similar magnitude of importance to economic value within a business. Working in a profession that contributes significantly to global greenhouse emissions\, Cumulus uses the B Corp framework to ensure there is balance between purpose and profit. This framework also ensures there is accountability and continuous improvement within the practice. The Open Space Conversation series will be led by the Sustainability Committee chair\, Dr Mark Dewsbury\, and the committee to create time and space for people to engage in meaningful conversation about key issues in sustainability.

SUMMARY:Unconscious Bias in Architecture Practices
DESCRIPTION:This session emerges from the Australian Institute of Architects’ 2023 Diversity and Inclusion in the Architectural Profession survey\, which revealed that only half of respondents believe the profession values diversity and inclusion\, despite strong progress within individual workplaces. Drawing on evidence from the survey and Institute focus groups\, we will discuss how diversity can be a strategic advantage for design excellence\, resilience\, and professional integrity.

SUMMARY:Open Space Conversation | Good Enough Air Tightness In Australian Residential Buildings
DESCRIPTION:This July the Tasmanian Chapter’s sustainability committee welcomes Freya Su\, a PhD student from the Tasmanian Architectural Science Lab (TASL) at the University of Tasmania for a presentation and all-in conversation about building performance simulation and its relationship with climate data methodology. Before embarking on her current studies\, Freya assisted Mark Dewsbury in his lab and has co-authored publications about condensation and mould in buildings. She is the director of Snug House with 6 years of experience in accredited airtightness testing of residential buildings in Tasmania. She will be presenting a number of case studies of noteable buildings and their airtightness results. This series will be led by the Sustainability Committee chair\, Dr Mark Dewsbury\, and the committee to create time and space for people to engage in meaningful conversation about key issues in sustainability.

SUMMARY:Planned Cover: Safe Design
DESCRIPTION:Since 2005\, there has been a shift in clients’ and authorities’ perception of consultants’ responsibility for the occupational health and safety aspects of their design. Some states have implemented new laws to impose fines upon consultants whose designs do not adequately address safety issues. This seminar considers the applicable “safe design” law\, provides a snapshot of national laws\, and considers risk management strategies to minimise the risks associated with “safe design”.
