Navigating Heritage: Architectural opportunities & statutory pathways
14 Nov 2019 at 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm AEDT$30 – $120
Heritage sites offer immense richness to our cities and towns, building up layers of history and contributing to our collective memory. Yet, heritage can often be perceived as a site constraint by clients, layered with unknown cost and time implications. Join us for a seminar on how heritage can be seen as an opportunity rather than a constraint. Intended to assist contemporary practitioners, this seminar will focus on how to achieve design excellence and successfully work with sensitive heritage sites.
In this 2-hour session attendees will hear from two leading architectural practices on recent award-winning projects that successfully engaged with heritage sites. Kerstin Thompson from Kerstin Thompson Architects will discuss a series of works including the Sacred Heart Building Abbotsford Convent Foundation and will be joined by Peter Elliott from Peter Elliott Architecture and Urban Design who will discuss the Parliament of Victoria Members’ Annexe. These architectural case studies will be supported by a practical discussion from Emily McLean, Manager of Statutory Approvals at Heritage Victoria, who will demystify the process of heritage protection in Victoria.
This session is the first of a series of CPD events that will be organised by the Institute’s Victorian Heritage Committee, with the intention to educate and encourage awareness around the role of heritage within the built environment.
