Architectural Sustainability: Getting our houses in order – Member Lean In session

13 Oct 2020 at 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm AEDT

We used to think sustainability was about trying to do everything all at once. In that approach, however, we made it look hard. When we made it look hard, others looked away. Faced with the climate crisis spiralling out of control before our very eyes, we’ve had to change our approach.

To bring everyone on a journey to net zero emissions, we’ve made it easy. A simple, three step journey that we can take each of our clients and subconsultants on, to help them build confidence and understanding around their carbon emissions – and how to abate them.

This is about progress, not perfection. It’s about mainstreaming a carbon neutral future.

In this Lean In session, we’ll be joined by Jeremy McLeod, founding Director of Breathe Architecture, a team of dedicated architects that have built a reputation for delivering high quality design and sustainable architecture for all scale projects. Breathe Architecture has been focusing on sustainable urbanisation and in particular have been investigating how to deliver more affordable urban housing to Melbournians.

Breathe were the instigators of The Commons housing project in Brunswick and now are collaborating with other Melbourne architects to deliver the Nightingale Model. Nightingale is intended to be an open source housing model led by architects. Jeremy believes that architects, through collaboration, can drive real positive change in this city we call home.
