Sydney Football Club Sky Park | CO.OP Studio
The Sky Park Centre of Excellence for Sydney Football Club unites all its members under one roof for first time in the Club’s history, creating a facility that celebrates and strengthens their family values, bringing together fans, staff, professional players, and the academy’s rising stars within Sky Park.
The restrained rigor of the building’s forms, volumes, and materials reflect the ethos of its home neighbourhood; combining an aspirational vision for Australian football with a strong and hard-wearing community foundation. The simple elegance and open plan interiors provide a high-quality space for the Club, balancing the needs for a modern commercial workplace with the facilities required for a cutting-edge training centre.
Managing various site and pandemic considerations, the design team worked collaboratively throughout with the Club, project stakeholders and contractors during a period of industry uncertainty to ensure a premier facility was delivered.
Campbell House Private Office | Tonkin Zulaikha Greer
Campbell House Private Office is the adaptive reuse of a Federation style house from the early 1890s into a contemporary office. TZG’s approach to this design was to weave the built heritage fabric into the contemporary commercial design to unify the significant building and positively contribute to its Heritage Conservation setting.
The threshold between interior and exterior spaces is blurred by layered transparencies that welcome the established front garden and abundant natural light deep into the building. A mature Weeping Fig Tree was planted in the office atrium and is the central focus of the new building. The surrounding contemporary design interventions, like the tree, breathes new life into the building.
The office is an exemplar of environmental design based on natural light, passive ventilation, enduring materials and harvesting green energy facilitated by a contemporary intervention to a heritage building.
Blacktown Exercise and Sports Technology Hub (BEST) | ARM Architecture with Architectus and CO.OP Studio
The Blacktown Exercise Sports and Technology Hub (BEST) is a world-class facility at the intersection of sport, culture, health and community. Designed by ARM Architecture with Architectus (landscape architects) and executive architect CO.OP Studio, BEST’s striking design is informed by the local multicultural vernacular, including Indian temples, Turkish bathhouses, and Chinese gardens. Its high-tech façade references sporting technology, including 3D printed equipment and apparel, carbon fibre prosthetics and aerodynamic fabrics.
The BEST serves as a centre for education, sports science and allied health, offering integrated facilities equipped with the latest in medical technology. Students, athletes and the broader community can access top tier treatment and rehabilitation services in a welcoming and inclusive environment. BEST is not for elite athletes alone; it has been conceived as a generous community asset aimed at improving long term health and wellbeing outcomes.
Barker College Maths and Student Hub | Architectus
The foundation of effective education is wellbeing. The Barker College Math’s Hub blends wellbeing and education through principles of biophilic design and didacticism that sees nature inspired timber classrooms enveloped in a facade that integrates the mathematical syllabus within its geometry.
Featuring two levels of mass timber teaching and learning spaces over a podium of social areas, informal study spaces, and a dining common, the Math’s Hub combines work, study and rejuvenation in an environment that prioritises sustainability.
The extensive use of sustainably sourced mass timber reduces the building’s embodied carbon footprint by more than 25% while creating a nature inspired learning environment. Organic finishes, abundant daylight, natural ventilation and passive heating and cooling strategies have all been designed to further minimise the building’s impact on the environment while simultaneously bringing the benefits of biophilia to the school community.
477 Pitt St | Wardle
477 Pitt Street involves the transformation of an existing commercial asset into an enlivened contemporary workplace for a technology focused tenant community. A whole of island site to the south of Sydney CBD, 477 Pitt is a 30storey office tower, lobby and associated retail spaces, upperlevel roof terrace and three heritage listed buildings on the site.
At ground plane, strategic interventions create a new building identity and legible arrival sequence. A landscaped threshold provides respite from Pitt Street and a new verandah space is for curated activities, public art and informal meetings.
The heritage listed Australian Gaslight building is repurposed as an event space, for the tenants and community to engage with. A sitting room adjacent to the tower lift lobby provides a private space for tenants to work, meet and collaborate while a wellness centre adjacent to a north facing elevated landscape terrace extends tenant amenity.
