Twelve Degree House is a finely crafted interior transformation that reimagines a once-dark cottage as a light-filled, materially rich home. A light-touch approach to the original 1890s cottage retained its character through sensitive restoration and reclaimed fixtures, allowing the home’s history to anchor the new interiors. Beyond the subtle art deco threshold, walls dissolve and an American oak central joinery spine organises circulation, conceals storage and shapes daily living. Acting as both feature and function, this crafted core integrates the kitchen, entertainment zone and dual-sided cabinetry to maximise amenity within a compact footprint.
An earthy palette of timber, green marble, brick and aged brass grounds the interiors, with a series of ‘interior blades’ subtly delineating spaces and deepening the sensory experience. Clever detailing and bespoke lighting elevate domestic life, delivering a warm, calm interior closely connected to landscape and light.
Our brief was to restore the historical appeal of our very run-down bluestone cottage, and to provide an interesting, modern addition. The team have exceeded our expectations on all levels. The project has successfully incorporated contemporary design and our lifestyle into the character of the house. The spaces are flexible, allowing for entertaining and guest accommodation. The kitchen, laundry and bathrooms are aesthetically pleasing, providing an excellent user experience. The north facing family room makes great use of natural light and the garden outlook. The interior finishes are beautiful, with emphasis on natural materials and colour to provide individuality.Â
