The Tamarama SLSC club (est. 1906) is located to the north of Tamarama Beach on a headland above a sandstone escarpment and enjoys panoramic views over Tamarama Beach. Identified by its iconic Art Deco façade, the Club has long been a beacon of safety, inclusion, and resilience for the local community – a meeting place for locals and visitors alike.
The key ambition of this project was to bring the club up to modern day standards, enhance the club’s engagement with the local community and improve surf lifesaving operations with a view towards increasing club membership.
Incorporating new storage facilities, improved training areas, a dedicated patrol room as well as a number of multipurpose spaces, the new clubhouse allows for a variety of activities beyond surf lifesaving training to take place, fostering a more dynamic use of the space and ensuring the club remains an integral part of community life.
The renewal of Tamarama SLSC clubhouse was driven by the need for better accessibility, equitable facilities, and enhanced logistic support for lifesaving and education operations. CHROFI’s architectural expertise was instrumental in reimagining the clubhouse as a modern, functional, and community-focused space. Their ability to combine contemporary design with the club’s coastal setting resulted in a beautiful and practical building. Collaborating with CHROFI was a pleasure—their professionalism, clear communication, and problem-solving approach made the process smooth and efficient. Thanks to their vision and dedication, we now have a world-class facility that will serve the community for the next 100 years
