Gadigal People of the Eora Nation
New South Wales
Surrey 112 has transformed a long-neglected site in Darlinghurst into a timeless four-bedroom home and studio.
The original rooms at the front of the house are restored to their former glory. They are contrasted against a contemporary series of voluptuous, sculpted interiors in the rear addition to the main house and studio on the rear lane.
Internal volumes are created by four siloes in a quatrefoil arrangement, sculpted and lined with plasterboard and finished in off-white hard-set render.Â
Interior finishes are carefully considered with oiled American oak used for joinery doors, furniture and the lining to the spiral stair. Â Also lined in timber, the attic and upper bedrooms carve space within the retained pitched roof form. Polished nickel hardware brings a soft delicacy to the heritage rooms whilst a more subdued palette of brushed nickel and bead blasted stainless are introduced in the contemporary spaces. Â
