Western Australia
Defined by its sloping topography and proximity to a seasonal watercourse, Stillwater forms the communal heart of a bushland retreat. Designed to support both poetic communal as well as individual experiences, the building accommodates shared meals, briefing and meditation spaces alongside more private wash and change areas.Â
A restrained building language draws on local shed typologies allowing the simple, robust form to sit quietly within a previously cleared site. Located at either end of the building, communal dining and briefing spaces open generously to bushland views through expansive glazing. Service areas are positioned centrally to allow uninterrupted circulation around the perimeter while a continuous ridge skylight brings daylight deep into the interior, animating the space throughout the day.Â
Material choices invite sensory engagement and support sustainability while delivering a grounded, enduring building that enriches the shared life of the retreat.
