Sorrento House is a contemporary sub-tropical residence located along the canals of Sorrento, Queensland’s Gold Coast. The design combines bold cantilevered concrete forms with warm timber, textured stone, and patterned breeze blocks, creating a layered, richly textured composition animated by light and shadow.
Deep overhangs and timber screens provide passive solar control and privacy while enabling natural ventilation and fluid indoor-outdoor connections. A central axis organises the plan, linking living areas to courtyards, terraces, and rooftop decks that offer expansive water views and promote cross-breezes.
Mature olive trees and integrated planting anchor the building within its canal-side context, dissolving boundaries between architecture and landscape. The result is a calm, enduring home that exemplifies adaptable family living and a refined modernist response to the Australian coastal environment.
Beyond being an incredibly beautiful home, it is very easy to live in, with a design that makes sense & suits us perfectly. Spaces are large & open but proportionate with a perfect cool/warm/dry microclimate all year round. We have the right amount of sunlight, shade & breeze during the day and beautiful ambient lighting at night. Every finish in the home is like a lux 5 star resort, it is perfect.
