Media summary

The Saint Teresa of Kolkata building at ACU is a new, state of the art vertical campus, located on the periphery of Melbourne’s CBD. The design encourages cross facility use with flexible internal and external spaces designed for recreation, socialisation, teaching and learning.

The design also responds to the needs of students, teachers, and researchers, prioritising flexibility to support the University’s long-term needs.

Spanning 13 levels, the building features an abundance of informal and formal learning spaces, including an urban Amphitheatre designed for lectures and student gatherings. The building also includes upgraded student amenities, including green spaces, terraces, and a rooftop multisport court.

The new building seamlessly integrates into the historically significant Mary Glowrey Building, blending old and new to shape a distinct character for the ACU St Partick’s Campus.

Victorian Jury Presentation

The Saint Teresa of Kolkata building was designed to maximize the available space to accommodate the growth of our student cohort.

The result is a building that seamlessly connects with the existing campus, ensuring the identity and mission of the university are given active expression.

The legacy of Saint Teresa is thoughtfully acknowledged, with references subtly incorporated within the grey GRC panels on the building’s façade.

The new building has transformed the ACU St Patrick’s Campus; students are reengaged and connected, and this has been facilitated and enhanced by the new building.
