RM House is a refined and deeply personal reimagining of a 1980s homestead in the Barossa Valley, where tactility and layering play a pivotal role in connecting past and present, building and country. Through a close collaboration with its owners, the approach dissolves boundaries typically seen in rural settings, balancing warmth, texture, and a contemporary liveability.
Vaulted ceilings enhance an internal intimacy, adding rhythm through repetition, with changing scenes of the landscape unfurling beyond framed outlooks. A deliberately natural palette of stone, charred timber, and robust concrete then anchor the setting from within, with a new north-facing gathering space forming the new heart of the home, engaging with the gardens and pool.
Focussing on an authenticity at the core of the response to the existing architecture, the additions and the interior of RM House reinforce moments of calm retreat, with the outward connections to place remaining the core focus.
