Project summary

Piara Wates SHS represents the State Government’s aspiration to provide quality educational infrastructure within expanding communities in the metropolitan region.

The School represents a civic milestone within a sub–urban context. The Piara Waters campus successfully meets the functional requirements using clear planning principles allowing for adaptability and future growth. The project generates an appealing identity that is achieved by a bespoke architectural screen applied throughout the campus, coupled with simple built forms, a concise materials palette and the successful integration of artworks using design motifs derived from a reading of the local context.

With a multiplicity of learning and meeting spaces throughout the School, the design maximises educational and social potential. A large central meeting space providing shelter and protection, the artworks, architectural form, and landscape all combine to create an attractive and distinctive educational environment.

Piara Waters Senior High School Stage One embodies a forward-thinking architectural approach within a burgeoning suburban setting. Its architectural design, guided by clear planning principles, ensures both functionality and adaptability for future growth. The campus’s architectural identity is accentuated by bespoke architectural features including the creative environmental shade-screening and vibrant public art installations, reflecting both a connection to the local context and as visual markers for legibility and movement.

The cafeteria acts as a lively social nexus, encouraging student interaction and recreation, while an innovative approach to programmable space generates additional opportunities, including shaded walkways for students traversing the campus. This student-orientated approach enhances the overall educational environment, fostering a profound sense of belonging and well-being.

Piara Waters SHS fosters a dynamic learning campus with its multiplicity of flexible learning and meeting spaces. These spaces, coupled with the campus’s inviting central meeting area and civic address, creates a high standard for educational infrastructure in suburban communities.

The state of art, futuristic design of the building aligns seamlessly with the school’s vision of 21st century learning, inclusivity and excellence.

Students and teachers have access to specialist and flexible learning spaces, setting the scene for ‘deep learning’ and the education of the ‘whole child’.

Workspaces for administration, professional and allied professional staff, are customised for ease of purpose, comfort and convenience. A focus on wellbeing is evident in the purposeful built spaces.
